Buffet Crampon Model 5 from the Buffet Powell era 1930s - Silver Plate-Overhauled Rarity
Buffet Crampon "Model 5" Saxophone - built during the 1930s when the Buffet Powell Altos were built as well - ser 326xx. This model has a semi "Balanced Action" with the lower stack axis turned in, the tone holes offset on the lower stack and the bell turned in.
Teardrop style front high F.
Articulated G#
Left hand is typical french 1920's with the C as a stand alone key (selmer 22's, buffets, sax, and couesnon all used this approach).
The Right hand is fully offset, like selmer would introduce in the 40's. Also the bell keys are "balanced" which is to say they mount on the tube side, which selmer introduced on its models with the BA.
This horn has just had a complete restoration, all new pads with s80 style resos. All new corks, felts, completely gone over as a labor of love by a skilled tech who was thrilled to have it on the bench. The overhaul would have cost about what I'm asking for the horn delivered.
Happy to answer any questions.
Comes in a near new black hardshell rectangular case of good quality and a good fit.
This is not going to be anyones 'daily driver'. But if you are interested in rare and high quality vintage saxophones, you will be quite pleased with its condition, unique design, rarity and rich beautiful and unusual sound. You would not mistake this warm and rich player for any modern generic. It has a lot of character and quality.
